Cruel Crown by C. Lymari–Review

Uneasy lies the head that wears the crown- Henry IV, Part II.

Cruel Crown is the second book in the Sekten series by C Lymari and happens to pick up where Savage kingdom ended. I finished this book about a week ago and have had the hardest time writing a review. My thoughts and comments are all jumbled in my head. I also do not want to tell you the plotline of CC.

Cruel Crown was everything I expected it to be and more. As with Savage Kingdom, Cruel Crown, was full of multiple emotions. Such as haunting, stunning, heated, passionate, fiery, feisty, and of course, the incredible push and pull between Gideon and Daphne.

Gideon was put into a precarious situation, thanks to Daphne, and now is determined to exact his revenge. However, what happens when he catches up with his precious Petal? What happens when they realize, they’ve ‘caught feelings’?

Claudia has written another winner with Cruel Crown. The plot line, story line, and flow were melded so well, they just wrapped you up in all three in sheer perfection. The emotions are all forthright with an undercurrent of “the only one to truly have my back is me”, but, Gideon and Daphne are beginning to realize that they don’t need to be alone and may be able to count on each other.

There is an organization that does not have their back and if you think they do, then be prepared for a whole host of issues, such as a knife in the back, kidnapped and beaten. The organization is the Sekt. They are still greedy and mysterious and very singular. They are all about making the Sekt/higher up members more powerful.

Claudia Lymari certainly knows how to write a fabulous, incredible, dark, and twisted book/series. I love all her books, but I truly feel she has found her niche in writing in the dark romance, taboo setting!!

Overcast (B723, #1) by Hazel Grace–Review

5 ‘Stormi’ stars

Hazel Grace is embarking on a new uncharted territory in her repertoire of books. We have gotten to know her for her strong male hero in a varying of romance settings, including historical, new adult, political, and now, a truly dark romance. She has dipped her toes in the pool of a dark romance previously, but nothing can prepare you for Emeric in Overcast. Previously, he made an appearance in her, Illusive Duet, series.

Overcast is everything she has teased and promised. It is dark, there are triggers, and there is also a spot of sunshine through the clouds by the name of Stormi. M and Stormi are complete opposites. They are the ying to each other’s yang, but that doesn’t mean they automatically click together like long lost puzzle pieces. There are many hoops and obstacles that they have to work through in order to find what the future truly has in store for them.

Despite the surrounding/situations, it is difficult to NOT feel for M. He has been through more in his entire life than most could ever dream of experiencing. He may be a mercenary, but he is still all male, protective, loveable, and coming into his own emotionally.

Stormi has an awarding ending, where she has come full circle and grown into the girl/woman she should have been from the beginning. She has become the strong, emotionally, and physically, powerful woman that M needs in his life.

Overall, I loved Marty, Stormi, and Overcast. They are two incredible people with an incredible story. It was hard to not feel invested in this pair. The writing and storyline were on point! I can’t wait to read more of her dark romance side!!

PS… Along the way, we are introduced to some harsh, but lovable, secondary characters. I can’t wait to dig into their minds and see what is truly going on with them (hint, hint, Hazel Grace😉).

Playing with Fire by LJ Shen–Review

Best. Book. Hangover. Ever! I have loved everything LJ writes, because this girl CAN WRITE! With that said, everything I have read before (All Saints High, Sinners and Saints, The Kiss Thief, etc.), feel small and inconsequential compared to Playing with Fire! Sure, they all received five stars, but if that is the case, PWF should receive a million stars.

I love West, but for the usual reasons. He is grumpy, sour, bitter, an a-hole, underground fighter, who can ‘drop panties wherever he walks’ hot. A popular bad boy, who is reckless, fearless, has a death wish and is broken. Needless to say, he is a fantastic male Hero with baggage to boot.

The star, though, of this whole book is Grace. I am madly and deeply in love with her. She is your unconventional, flawed modern heroine. She is strong, feisty, insecure, loaded with self-esteem issues (yes, she can be strong and still lack confidence), loyal, lovable, and the source of local fodder. She is a fighter with the true heart of a phoenix. Grace is inspirational and a character to look up to.

Leigh has completely outdone herself. Playing with Fire is raw, emotional, gritty, gripping, and above all, a love story for the ages. A love story that is raw, slowly simmering from friendship to more. If you want angst, this is for you. If you want, drama, this is for you. Above all, if you want an emotionally driven, no holds barred, self-loving book, this is definitely for you. Playing with Fire is consuming, so consuming, that I did not even realize I was crying through most of it.

I do not think I could ever write how incredible this book is and still do it justice. Simply put, it is magnificent. I was unprepared for the trek that I was taken on, but lord knows, that I will willingly go through it all over again. If you only read ONE book this year, Playing with Fire is that book. Without a shadow of doubt, this book is most definitely in my best of 2020 books.

Looking to Score by Alley Ciz, U of J series, book 1–New Release

5 ‘Skittles’ Stars

Oh Ms. Alley Ciz,

I am in love!! Dare I say, I think I am slightly more in love with the U of J series (or what it’s going to be), than her BTU series (which is A-MAZ-ING, by the way). I know that is difficult to assess with only one book in the U of J series, but this book has everything, I’ve grown to love about Alley.

I absolutely adore Alley’s writing style. You are guaranteed a good time when you pick up one of her books. The banter and personalities of all characters is outstanding. The humor is riotously hilarious, and it is chock full of drama and mystery. All in all, Looking to Score has it all!!

I am in absolute love with Mason and Kay. Mason, well because he’s smoking hot, driven, charismatic, loyal, and downright cocky. Kay is fierce, loyal, genuine, and protective, but the main thing these two share is they are both vulnerable. This vulnerability is hidden behind a great big brick wall, which they do not show often, but when they do, watch out, because you will find your new best friend and instant supporter! These two are absolute perfection together!

Based on Looking to Score, the U of J series, is looking very promising and I can’t wait for more. More words, more character storylines and more of an explosive good time!
